Shreck Posted July 10, 2022 Share #1 Posted July 10, 2022 Is this a real or fake German belt buckle and also how can you tell if it is a original or fake.
SARGE Posted July 10, 2022 Share #2 Posted July 10, 2022 It is a fake Heer belt buckle. The red flags are: (1) sharply cut ends on the belt prongs on the back. (2) The catch is all wrong for period work. (3) An Army buckle should not have a NSDAP "RZM" maker marking. Three strikes and you are out!

I have seen a few photos of original army buckles with RZM stamps on them though I think it is rare.
Bill Scott Posted July 10, 2022 Share #4 Posted July 10, 2022 Listen to what Sarge said Army buckles were never never RZM marked they were not a party organization so there was no RZM control of their items.
jmd62 Posted July 10, 2022 Share #5 Posted July 10, 2022 Definitely a bad buckle. The only Heer buckle I'm aware of that had an RZM mark is the "RZM M4/44," also seen on some Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine buckles.
Preppy Picker Posted July 10, 2022 Share #6 Posted July 10, 2022 Look how soft the reverse strike of the eagle and motto is.

Never say never, a very rare Paul Cramer / RZM M4/44 evaluated and genuine.. These types of buckles fool the newbies out A LOT ! All are fake as fake can be, easily identified by the reverse, buckles were never constructed this way, there are several more in this fake series, but you should get the hint, another sign of a modern fake is the telltale sign of this circle weldment, any buckle found like this is spurious at best, Regards, G
