63cagedfalcon Posted March 4, 2023 #1 Posted March 4, 2023 I have been offered this blade & have never seen on like it or able to find a photo of one. Not sure how I feel about this one. Could it be factory done? An error, variant, requested? Hoping for input, thanks, Paul
Rakkasan187 Posted March 5, 2023 #2 Posted March 5, 2023 Paul, A very interesting dagger. There are a few theories about this dagger. One being that it was a post war GI's ingenuity. Here is one that sold through IMA (International Military Antiques that discusses the post war GI theory: https://www.ima-usa.com/products/original-german-wwii-named-red-cross-hewer-with-spear-point-tip?variant=38445550661 Second: Here is an image of a pointed tip DRK hewer in the book: In the Service of the Reich, Diplomatic & Government Officials/German Red Cross by John R. Angolia Not a whole lot of information other than the pointed tips were not authorized based on the Geneva Convention. Not sure what to really think. I like to keep an open mind and hopefully some more information will surface. Best regards Leigh
SARGE Posted March 5, 2023 #3 Posted March 5, 2023 The most likely explanation is that the blade tip has been re-pointed.
