patches Posted April 17, 2023 #1 Posted April 17, 2023 Just seen the Israeli Actor Topol passed last month a 87. He was in the Israeli Army as a teenager, and a reservist for few years after active service, he evidently was in the Israeli Army's Special Services, as a Reservist he was recalled for the Sinai War in 1956. And either volunteered or was recalled for both the Seven Day War and the Yom Kippur War, both times as an entertainer it seems. It has also come to light that he was a Special Agent for Mossad as well LOL. Here he is during the Yom Kippur War, he's not wearing Rank Shoulder Straps, indicating he's no longer a Reservist but a Volunteer to support the troops.
patches Posted April 18, 2023 Author #2 Posted April 18, 2023 Topol off to the left giving the Thumbs Up as a Half Track goes by. Again not seeing Rank, but he is armed as we see.
patches Posted April 19, 2023 Author #4 Posted April 19, 2023 Lets post a few of his most notable roles. As a more friendly Arab in Cast a Giant Shadow.
Rakkasan187 Posted April 20, 2023 #5 Posted April 20, 2023 Topol was in War and Remembrance mini-series. His character was Berel Jastrow. Leigh

At least half the class chose Citizen Kane. Guess what movie I picked? I got an A. I think the teacher was grateful not to read yet another Citizen Kane paper. mikie
patches Posted May 6, 2023 Author #12 Posted May 6, 2023 And his most famous role, a Tevye The Milkman in Fiddler On The Roof.
Arkaidiyh Posted April 26, 2024 #13 Posted April 26, 2024 Got to see him perform live in "Fiddler" some years ago at the Durham Performing Arts Center. He no longer had the voice range to do all of the songs but it was a very moving performance and an experience I will never forget. Literally brought tears to my eyes. May his memory be a blessing. 🕯
