Just seen the Israeli Actor Topol passed last month a 87.

He was in the Israeli Army as a teenager, and a reservist for  few years after active service, he evidently was in the Israeli Army's Special Services, as a Reservist he was recalled for the Sinai War in 1956. And either volunteered or was recalled for both the Seven Day War and the Yom Kippur War, both times as an entertainer it seems. It has also come to light that he was a Special Agent for Mossad as well LOL.

Here he is during the Yom Kippur War, he's not wearing Rank Shoulder Straps, indicating he's no longer a Reservist but a Volunteer to support the troops.

Topol off to the left giving the Thumbs Up as a Half Track goes by. Again not seeing Rank, but he is armed as we see.

This movie was one of my guilty pleasures.  Though I haven't seen it in 20+ years.

I took a film appreciation class about the time this came out in the theaters. At least half the class chose Citizen Kane. Guess what movie I picked? I got an A. I think the teacher was grateful not to read yet another Citizen Kane paper.

Got to see him perform live in "Fiddler" some years ago at the Durham Performing Arts Center.  He no longer had the voice range to do all of the songs but it was a very moving performance and an experience I will never forget.  Literally brought tears to my eyes.  May his memory be a blessing.  🕯
