Dogsbody Posted June 8, 2023 Share #1 Posted June 8, 2023 Hi all, I'd like to know if anybody has seen something like this before. It seems to be some sort a patch depicting the German Reichsflagge however the cross in the upper left corner of the Reichsflagge is usually black and not white like this one is. It came with a small paper lot that doesn't give a clue as to what this patch could be or was used for. Maybe it's a (post war) fantasy piece, I don't know. All opinions are welcome. I have never seen a 'Kreigsmarine Reichskriegflagge' with a white Iron Cross in the upper canton nor seen such a symbol associated with the TR. Looking at the patch as a whole it is not well printed and off centre. It looks very much like a post war fantasy piece as you suggest. The other consideration is that 'Kreigsmarine' didn't wear such patches on their uniform and back in WWII cloth badges were not sown onto clothing as they have been in recent times as a fashion accessory. I may, of course, be wrong, and welcome any alternative opinions, but I do think the printers have made an error. Gunner87
Dogsbody Posted June 20, 2023 Author Share #3 Posted June 20, 2023 Thanks. I didn't have high hopes for this one. That sloppiness isn't what you normally see in German insignia.

Hi Dogsbody. I think the main point is the 'Kreigsmarine Reichskriegflagge' was never worn on a uniform like, for instance, the United States flag was worn on the shoulder. As such, even if it was contemporary, it wasn't issued. I dont like to run a members artefacts down but you are spot on, it is not well produced and has the glaring error in the Iron Cross.
