elvis031267 Posted August 31, 2023 Share #1 Posted August 31, 2023 Hi fellow collectors, I recently got this medal, It reminds mee of the shützenmedaillen. Which are shooting competition medals from Germany. Yet i am not sure if i am looking in the right direction or if it is something completely different. And if it is a shooting competition medal; I would like to know if anyone knows an age / region or any other information about it. Many thanks in advance, My best regards Elvis
Preppy Picker Posted August 31, 2023 Share #2 Posted August 31, 2023 Anything on the back?
Gunner87 Posted August 31, 2023 Share #3 Posted August 31, 2023 This medal from Germany, apparently circa 1929, Champion Shot or from a Schützenfest, while different in its construction, has a number of similarities. The crown has five arches, the Maltese Cross is the same green. The target design in the centre is present in both. I would say your initial thoughts are probably spot on. elvis031267 Posted August 31, 2023 Author Share #4 Posted August 31, 2023 Preppy Picker, There is no writing on the back. Gunner, That was what i initially thought but the V shape under the crosshair I never saw with those medals,... does anyone else know more about them? I wonder if the V shape is a "Square' as in masonic?
elvis031267 Posted August 31, 2023 Author Share #6 Posted August 31, 2023 that could be possible, there is a small hole right under the crown maybe there is missing a piece,... But the oakleaves made me more looking into germany tbh

In particular the centre bottom... it has the Crown, the Maltese Cross, the Green..... the more I look, the more I'm convinced yours is a Schützenfest medal. Preppy Picker Posted August 31, 2023 Share #8 Posted August 31, 2023 This is not a Masonic medal and the V is not a square.

Proud Kraut Posted August 31, 2023 Share #10 Posted August 31, 2023 I would vote for Schuetzenfest medal as well. The "V" could be a rear sight.
