elvis031267 Posted September 7, 2023 Share #1 Posted September 7, 2023 Dear forum members, Made some nice finds during my trip to France anyway, several hand grenade 'Spoons'. Some ammunition (as well as 40mm unexploded which I wisely left), coins etc. Most finds were WW2 German and French. During a day of magnet fishing, I unearthed this object. It did not look like the (artillery) shells I have already seen. I also had a hard time seeing if the object itself was empty so I left it behind just to be sure. Does anyone know more about this? Kind regards Elvis

Kind regards Elvis Hi Elvis. Whether it is a shell case or not, it doesn't appear that it has exploded, like the one attached, as the cuts and pattern appear symmetric. I wonder if it was a piece of 'Trench Art' that was in the process of being made. A great deal of the art brought home was made away from the front line, not by soldiers, but that doesn't mean yours isn't. Just food for thought.... Gunner ... Preppy Picker Posted September 9, 2023 Share #3 Posted September 9, 2023 Was it made of steel, it looks rusty? And do you have a picture of the bottom of it?
elvis031267 Posted September 11, 2023 Author Share #4 Posted September 11, 2023 I don't know the material, It looked to be oxidized green. So my guess would be a copper alloy,... It could be trench art, but the weird thing is it doesn't look like a shell nor a projectile. I am really confused about it,...

Do you have a picture of the bottom? Or is it an open ended tube? Was it in the river? Is it metric?
elvis031267 Posted September 11, 2023 Author Share #6 Posted September 11, 2023 one side is open and one side is closed don't know what would be de top. Found it in a Wehrmacht water reservoir together with Hand grenade parts etc. It kind of looks like a "40mm French 1879 "Flanker" Revolver Cannon Round" But the top apears to be kind of folded flat. I will search in my vacation Pictures for a picture of the top and i will let you know,...
