6th.Mg.Bn. Posted October 5, 2023 Share #1 Posted October 5, 2023 I found this in one of my boxes of stuff from at least 20 years ago and was wondering if anyone could translate this tag. I never knew what it was for. Tag measures 2-15/16" x 2-7/16" and has a button loop at the top. Ken
Mr. Bushido Posted October 5, 2023 Share #2 Posted October 5, 2023 It looks like a Filipino name tag issued by Japan. The name and place name are written on it, but the pronunciation method is archaic, so I couldn't translate it into English. Fortunately, I have the relevant books, so I'll do some research. Mr. Bushido Posted October 6, 2023 Share #4 Posted October 6, 2023 This item says... Right: Binalonan / Province of Pangasinan Left: Danushka Ganancial Bottom: 46 years old Maybe the name is not spelled correctly. I think the loop is for wearing this item. I didn't know what it was used for, but it looked like it was written by someone familiar with Japanese. During WW2, the Japanese government had a policy of incorporating the Asian region into its own country. I think it might have something to do with that. I think your information makes sense. By the way, I don't know that the IJN captured any Filipino regular soldiers. Are the POWs mentioned here people like members of the resistance? Or maybe a prisoner arrested under Japanese law?
