patches Posted October 14, 2023 Share #1 Posted October 14, 2023 Post WWII. A couple of Armored Crewman wearing the American Army Frog Skins, they are of some kind of Armored or Mechanized Cavalry unit as we see. Need help in IDing the this rather obsolete looking tank, and if possible the Cap Badge to ID unit. We do see the tank's nickname is Friesland with the shield looking like its design is taken from the Flag of Friesland
earlymb Posted October 14, 2023 Share #2 Posted October 14, 2023 Very nice photo, the tank seems to be a Japanese Type 89 I-Go and it's likely one of the ex-Japanese vehicles that continued to be used by both sides in the colonial war that started right after the end of WW2. The Dutch National Military Museum has a Type 97 Te-Ke tankette in their collection that was captured by Dutch marines from the Indonesian national army. earlymb Posted October 15, 2023 Share #4 Posted October 15, 2023 It might be the same vehicle, as they probably only had 1 or 2.
patches Posted June 18 Author Share #5 Posted June 18 Any idea on the cap badge earlymb?
earlymb Posted June 18 Share #6 Posted June 18 Standard US HBT cap, the badge is a Dutch cap/beret lion badge on what appears to be some sort of background, which was usually done at unit level or individual taste. patches Posted August 21 Author Share #8 Posted August 21 Infantry this time, evidently there was a whole sale issuance of cammies to the Dutch there. They and the Tank I found are from the Friesland Battalion https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friesland_Battalion

They were quite common for Dutch troops in the Dutch East-Indies 1945-1950.
