Holster Chinese Or Japanese?

I recently acquired this holster.  It came in a grouping of a US 14th AF airman's items.  As you can see it has an embossed Chrysanthemum on the top of the flap. It was for a revolver as you can also see the fluted cylinder impression.  My guess would be for a Chinese officer. Since it's a bit out of my comfort zone, I'm looking for confirmation that it is Chinese and not Japanese.  Many thanks for your help.

I don't know the details.

If this flower is a chrysanthemum, it has nothing to do with the Japanese army.

Chrysanthemums symbolize the Emperor, so they are rarely casually depicted in personal items.
