Basic Rifleman Posted December 24, 2023 Share #1 Posted December 24, 2023 I recently came across a collection of Japanese medals and have had a difficult time identifying the few medals I'm posting here. I would be deeply appreciative if someone could tell me what they are, and or translate the text. Most of the medals in the collection dates from the 1890's through about 1930 or so. Many have been identified, but these are the remaining medals I have absolutely no idea about. I've tried using google translate, but that can be a fickle beast sometimes. Thanks in advance for looking - I look very much forward to identifying these medals and putting to bed this months-long search for a correct ID. Solution Mr. Bushido Posted December 25, 2023 Solution Share #2 Posted December 25, 2023 This item was distributed at a ceremony to commemorate the statue's completion. The model of the bronze statue is "Prince Arisugawa Taruhito", the same as the person engraved on the medal. The ceremony was held in October 1903. Basic Rifleman Posted December 25, 2023 Author Share #3 Posted December 25, 2023 Fantastic! Thanks so much for the identification. I can't find another of these online even with the positive ID. It really is a striking medal/commemorative. The details are amazing on this one despite the photos just being average. It's also made of silver!
