Bits and pieces I have put up in my collection room. In reality items I don’t really collect, but have decided to keep for some reason. Badges, patches, wings, pocket hangers and other items from around the world.

Would you mind sharing some of the details of the display method where you have all those uniform black frames/boxes?  What exactly are those frames, what you are using as backing, how the medals are mounted etc.

Hi Lars.

 

I've seen these before and understand VAKT translates to Guard in Norwegian and Swedish. I believe the Swedish military have a VAKT unit that solely guard military installations though I can not find either badges above the letters anywhere.

 

I look forward to @NorBn enlightening us...

Thanks so much, Gunner! I should have thought of that myself, VAKT sounds similar to the German word WACHE (guard) but I thought it was an abrevation. Thanks again and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

They are ordinary picture frames I bought at Ikea and the backing is thick paper

Gunner is correct, Vakt translates to Guard and these brassard were used when on guard duty. There are of course several different ones and the one with the viking ship patch came from the camp at Heistadmoen.

I have to admit that I have filled in some items after receiving smaller collections, but I am soon running out of space. I am really a patch collector, but some of of the other items are quite rare and that is one of the reasons I have kept them. A couple of the brassards have rare patches and I just don’t want to cut them off.
