Travd3 Posted January 3 Share #1 Posted January 3 Im fairly confident this is a French Artillery button, but could be mistaken. When would this button have been worn and where (cuff, etc.?)? Approx. 18mm diameter x 5mm height. Trying to make out the Mfg. on back, but difficult to read.

I have found the same on ebay listed as France 2nd EMPIRE 1852-1870 Artillery Military https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/195857533612?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=k42wgUKGRGG&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY I am also a member of an online military button group and have asked for opinions there.... Travd3 Posted January 6 Author Share #3 Posted January 6 Gunner.... many thanks. I found that Ebay listing shortly after posting my question. Its the only example I have been able to locate. I will be interested in hearing what your button board has to say. I have tried to read the back with everthing possible but cant make out the writing. I hope your board might be able to give some suggestions as to the maker. Regards Travis

I've had a reply that it is from Belgium. Looking at other buttons from that country seems to confirm that theory. This ebay ad also lists it as from Belgium. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255724557906?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=2eYPpf3eSMe&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY Gunner
Travd3 Posted January 13 Author Share #5 Posted January 13 Sorry it to so long to get back....Belgian? Interesting...I looked at the auction and it is definitely the same button. I have been looking for it under Belgium, but still can only find it in that Ebay auction. Did the board happen to mention the time frame this would have been in service? Yhanks again for your help with this as Im not a button person and am short on knowledge.

This is another dealer listing the same buttons in two sizes as Belgium artillery https://www.laur-art-collection.com/pt/product-page/bouton-uniforme-militaire-belgique-artillerie-canon-croix-armee-24mm-button-army and https://www.laur-art-collection.com/pt/product-page/bouton-uniforme-militaire-belgique-artillerie-canon-croix-armee-22mm-button-army-1 The design around the edge of the Belgium artillery buttons is almost identical to the Belgium infantry regiments bar a small detail at the top as per this link https://www.warrelics.eu/forum/uniform-buttons-world/variety-belgian-regimental-buttons-their-maker-761770/ The two images are a French artillery button with the flaming bomb above the crossed canons and Belgium artillery button for comparison. Had a response from a member of a military button group stating Belgium artillery 1831 to 1915. Gunner
