Along with the Civil Defense Helmet I just posted about a few days ago, I also picked up this pair of binoculars at the same estate sale. It was quite a lucky purchase, because I bought them cheap thinking they were maybe just a nice pair of post-war binoculars from Japan. Upon further research, what I seem to have here are WWII Imperial Japanese Navy Binoculars. Although I'm uncertain about all of this, so let me know if you think otherwise.

The case they came in seems to be a post-war case that is completely unrelated.

I've posted about them here where users have shared some valuable info: https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/9...ii-binoculars/

A helpful user was able to send me a copy of a reference page that shows how the symbols on the middle piece both indicate inspection approval in relation to the navy. And the symbol on the left represents the air force. (I'm assuming that must be something like the air force service under the Navy.) The symbol on the right I haven't seen. The "SKK" I'm not sure about either.

Wanted to post here to see if this community would be able to share any more info. I'm still quite unclear what I have here in terms of dating, value, use (i.e. are they indeed IJN?) etc.

Thanks!

Not really. Just what you find on line. I only have 3 pair.  Rich A. in Pa.

"SKK" is the name of the manufacturer.

The official company name is "Seiki-Kougyou-Kougaku-Kabushikigaisya 【精機光学工業株式会社】".

That company is currently known as "Canon Inc".

Thanks, Mr. Bushido.  That's a critical piece of info.

And thanks for the kind words.  I feel quite fortunate that I sort of fell into these.  I admittedly was pretty close to passing on them, because I just got so focused on the case being clearly from like the 1950s and sort of distracted by the helmet I was about to buy, that I barely looked at the binoculars themselves, and was then sort of unsure if it even made sense for me to buy them.  Both for the trying to limit the accumulation of things I probably don't need, and then just not being sure if I really wanted to add another $25 on top of my overpriced helmet.  Thinking back on it now, it's strange to recall how absentmindedly I had made the decision to buy them....

Guess I just got lucky.  I had to watch two guys in front of me scoop up literally all the other goodies at this estate sale: beautiful cased minty WWII Purple Heart and Bronze Star, a collection of 100+ WWII US Division/Insignia/Rank patches, several US WWII Uniforms, Luger holster, German Belt Buckles, and an incredible seemingly complete and untouched Luftwaffe helmet.  This does help cool the burn.
