Chief D Posted November 27, 2024 #1 Posted November 27, 2024 I have this badge that I was trying to figure out some information on. It was from a WWII US Sailor. I can not find information on this anywhere. I found it in one location buy not too much information. https://tw.bid.yahoo.com/item/100856982216 Why is it so expensive? Is it from WWII? Who wore it? Any help would be appreciated.
mikie Posted December 5, 2024 #2 Posted December 5, 2024 Sorry, I can’t give a specific identification. That said, in case you didn’t already know, the sun in the center looks like the symbol of Nationalist China. mikie
easterneagle87 Posted December 5, 2024 #3 Posted December 5, 2024 I agree that it has the Nationalist China symbol. Additionally, they mirror US insignia and it does have a "Coast Guard" type symbolism.
Chief D Posted December 12, 2024 Author #4 Posted December 12, 2024 The information I had found was that this was a badge for a senior officer Nationalist China. I dont know if it was like a fleet commander, ship commander or even higher.
Chief D Posted December 24, 2024 Author #5 Posted December 24, 2024 I seem to be getting closer. It looks a lot like the Commander of the Republic of China Navy Badge. The only thing I notice different is the "flower" on top of the commander's badge.
Hsin C. Posted January 13 #6 Posted January 13 The website that was linked is a Yahoo Taiwan website listed in the local foreign currency, the New Taiwan Dollar. At its current exchange rate 1 US Dollar to NTD is 33.09. I usually estimate 500 NTD is about $15, so it is about $11-12, not $400. Judging from the screwbacks on the back, the item dates to around the 1970s. Maybe 60s. Not every Taiwan period item is from WWII. Most ebay sellers would list Taiwan items as WWII, but can never back the source nor change it because $$$ reasons. See the photos below for references on how to identify. Note the two different screwcaps types on the other photo.
Chief D Posted January 26 Author #7 Posted January 26 Thank you Hsin. Your information was very educational and informative. I appreciate it.
