I nearly destroyed a German jack boot when the mannequin the pair was on fell over. It bent at the ankle, and ripped apart the stitches that secure the tall cuff to the top of the shoe section. A leather working shop who couldn’t do the repair referred me to a shoe cobbler who could.

I stressed that I wanted the result to look like they were never re-stitched, nothing more, nothing less. He assured me he knew what to do, and he did.

The yellow highlight shows which line of stitching was repaired, but not the extent of damage. That one stitch ripped open completely around the back half of the boot. He firmly re-attached it. Note that there’s a double row of stitching above that, that was already there when I got these (and didn’t rip). The other boot lacks that stitching. The new thread looks to be the same weight as the original, just not as faded looking. Set me back $50, and was ready in one week. I really didn’t expect it to turn out so well!

A decent looking repair.   These old time cobblers are getting harder and harder to find.  I had a local guy with a home workshop but his building burned down.
