Hello,I am hoping some one can give me a positive ID on this guy....The stamping looks like a UK war dept stamp but it is pretty faded...other ones are stronger but I do not know what they mean...also curious about the (rank?) shoulder pips...there are button holes all the way around waist and the inside is of a material I have not encountered...There is a name for these that slips my mind at the moment...Thanks in advance folks

Hello.

I don't know the details of the uniform.

 

But I think the fabric is a type called "AIRTEX."

 

It was mainly used for Commonwealth military uniforms.

   In case you decide to Google them its actually Aertex. Not sure on this style though.   Scott

I am beginning to think this is a British item...can make out a solid 1943 date in the rectangular box also that does not show well in picture

I agree, I think it's a British Aertex tropical BD Jacket with a removable buckle for the waist strap.
