Yannis Posted May 1 #1 Posted May 1 Researched Order of the “Red Banner” № 25411 (2nd Type, 3rd Variation “Монетный Двор”), awarded to Junior Political Commissar Lebed Semen Egorovich (pictured), Political Commissar of the Mortar Company, 90th Rifle Regiment, by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the USSR on the 10th February 1942. The Citation for this award states: Comrade Lebed has been participating in the battles against the German-Romanian fascism since the beginning of the combat operations. In the fighting for the village of Vakulievka, the Mortar Company was ordered to aid the 4th Rifle Company. The enemy opened heavy artillery fire on the mobilised company, but Comrade Lebed led the Company to the front lines on time and without casualties. While serving as a Political Commissar, he also acted as a Commander. When a shell exploded, he was concussed and thrown onto barbed wire, but comrade Lebed did not leave the front line. After the battle, he did report to the Medical Unit, but after being bandaged, he was returned to the Unit. During this time, the 5th Rifle Company, under pressure from the enemy, retreated from its positions. Comrade Lebed was sent to the 5th Rifle Company, and the 5th Rifle Company's position has been restored by comrade Lebed. In the battles for the village of Vakulievka, comrade Lebed from the attic of one house killed up to 30 Romanians. He deserves to be recommended for a governmental award. Commander of the 90th Rifle Regiment Major Belyuga 26 September 1941 Lebed Semen Egorovich, a Ukrainian national, was born in the Village of Daryevka, Kherson Region, Belozersky District, Ukrainian SSR on 03.06.1915. He joined the Red Army on the 28th October 1936, at the Kharkov District Military Commissariat and participated in battles against the White Finns during the Winter War of 1939-1940 and in the Great Patriotic War from June 22, 1941. He took part in the defence of Moscow, Odessa, Sevastopol and Caucasus, and he was awarded: this Order of the “Red Banner” (02.1942), the Order of the “Patriotic War, 1st Class” (10.1944), the Order of the “Patriotic War, 2nd Class” (03.1945), Medal for “Combat Service” (04.1947), Order of the “Red Star” (11.1951), Order of the “Red Banner” (12.1956) and the Medals: “ For the Defence of Moscow”, “For the Defence of Odessa”, “For the Defence of Sevastopol”, “For the Defence of Caucasus”, “For the Victory over Germany”, “30th Anniversary of the Soviet Army and Navy”. He demobilized in 1962 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
