January 23, 20215 yr #1 Hello, Just acquired an Iron Cross 2nd class and was wondering if anyone here might be able to give me any info on it. It does have a “800” stamped on the ring. thanks for any info you can give. Kevin
January 30, 20215 yr #3 Nice medal! While I don't know much about them, I think the "800" is a silver stamp . . . meaning it is not sterling, but that it is 80% silver. Might try contacting member @RRA227 as I think he has several Iron Crosses across multiple eras! Is the black looking center area tarnish or is it enameled (or something like that) to look black? Very nice looking example!
January 30, 20215 yr #4 Startasfan’s comments are correct, 800 refers to silver content and you see it occasionally on German medals. Yours looks to be a good WWI German Iron Cross second class. Not a terribly scarce medal, but no WWI German medal collection is complete without one. Congrats.
