Thank you for all the input provided. I believe this helmet checks all the boxes. Please LMK if I got it right

These have French type liners fitted.

What a hoot! Never imagined buying a helmet would be so challenging! My US & German helmets didn't present any such challenges. I was certain I stumbled onto the correct helmet. Obviously I didn't. Kia, is the answer installing a Japanese liner, or is it more involved? Really appreciate your input. Thank you.

Back again - any red flags? Appreciate all your input & patients. 2nd pic showing vent holes

fake

a real type 90 already costs at least 600 or 700 euros in average condition

a very good book, heitai from heimdal

Thank you Tittus. Appreciate your input. Dealing with fakes is ubiquitous and has put the brakes on most things.  I'll switch gears & starting my search for Type 38 Carbine & take my time looking for a helmet

Have a question, the last helmet (broken navy anchor ️). If would changing the liner (and anchor) set it right to an M90?

Still focusing on the Arisaka Type 38 carbine. Just for my edification.

yes

Good to know, thank you

OMG, these are some of the worse fakes I've ever seen! 😮

Here are the insides of two of my helmets, IJN stencil on the left, IJA on the right.

I seem to be a fake helmet magnet. Still learning. It helps seeing known Type 90 helmets. Appreciate any & all input.

Sorry for the last response, although the helmet is good the star looks as if it is a repro, when the French refurbished these helmets they removed a lot of fittings. Also the Indochina period helmets are rare (but not as popular).

I appreciate all the feedback I can get. Much preferred to finding out that I wasted time and money buying a fake or cobbled together helmet. At the very least I think I know what to look for & what questions to ask, much more than I knew a week ago!

It's happened to all of us, next time post the photos here first and I'm sure someone will be glad to help you before you pull the trigger.

Great info here - haven't pulled the trigger on a helmet yet. Learned my lesson after the fact on the few items I rushed to purchase!

I think I have a handle on Japanese M90 helmets. I'm fairly confident I'm getting an understanding. Take a look @ this & point out any flaws. Not sure if IJN is a knock off & curious if the liner is a replacement - thank you!

Yes it is, and be very careful, there are a s@@t ton of different civil defense helmets, check the dealers sites. Go over to Griffin Militaria,Dan usually has a lot of CD lids that you can check out.

Just wanted to thank you, and all who provided input as to what to look for. Also you for suggesting I check out Dan Griffins site. I visit his sites frequently now. Both his sold helmets & those for sale are a great resource regarding the various types of helmets, condition & price points. Doing my homework.

That's good, I've been buying from Dan for years and have never had a problem, very nice and fair and generous people, fast and very well packaged items, good communication.

With your endorsement I'm using him as the 'Gold Standard'. I saw a few of his sold helmets which I would have bought - thank you Shemp

Sorry, but I don't like anything about this lid, I think it's bad.

Thanks Bill for following up. I didn't pull the trigger on this one. I'm only gonna buy one Japanese helmet & don't want an almost right or fake one. Just from the photo I had concerns about the Anchor emblem & the liner looks off. What did you see?

You've got some great helmets Titus

IMHO the anchor is bad, and it appears to have been repainted over the chips of the original paint, the shell might original. Can you post photos of the liner bridge at the back of the helmet? Does the liner smell like leather? I would pass on this one but that's up to you.

I'll see if I can dig them up. I think the liner appears to b pigskin (don't have the helmet so no smelling). My researching noted IJN helmets are cowskin & IJA are pigskin. The repainting brings up a big stumbling block for me. I've seen a helmet shell on Dan's site for ~ $600. Paints original - kinda infers that installing a liner & tie chinstrap is ok? Or hands off. One additional, was unable to send you a pm. Sure I got it wrong cuz couldn't get it to send

I spent time over past few days looking at Dan's helmets & those in this post. The anchor is crooked & its the same color as the repaint. According to Dan's info the emblems tend to wear faster. Also liner is the wrong type of leather. Hey could you pm me?
