Some time in the 20's he joined the Hundestaffel which was part of the communications (Nachrichten) unit (for messenger dogs)

I would say this is the best/rarest photo in the album. Notice the dog on left with service vest (including pigeon carrier !!) and message carrying tube on collar.

I really like that one because of the clarity and composition.

 

This 8 x 10 inch original just came in the mail today. Is that a Veterinarian specialty patch on his right sleeve?

Notice that he is a private with a whistle like many Non-Coms. I bet he has a dog whistle though.
