Marshall and Leigh,   Thank you both for your responses. I concur that the buckle is a well made "fantasy" piece with a real good aging job so thanks for the input. I bought it off a local dealer who was honest and said he wasn't 100% sure of it's authenticity but offered to give me my money back if I found it wasn't right. He's knowledgeable but mostly deals in guns and knives so I've already been in touch and not worried.   Leigh, I looked over the back of the eagle with a magnifying glass and there's no sign of a maker mark. I think it's just some of the pressed wreath appearing like lettering or something in the photo. The more I look it over, I would agree with you that it does seem to be original. Very well made with apparently proper fittings, etc. Thank you so much for your verification and expert opnion!   As far as the paperweight, I think it's also a fantasy piece but it was sort of a charity buy off an old friend (LOL). I don't have the heart to tell him it's a fake so I'm okay eating that one! You live and you learn.   Thanks so much again for your time and comments. That's why I love these two Forums!   Best, Jim

Allow me   Here it is Leigh, both photos are of the rear of eagle, so I just did the one. member needs to take photo of front of eagle.

Jim,   The metal breast eagle is for Kriegsmarine and it looks alright.. Are there any hallmarks on the reverse? I see something on the bottom right of the wreath but it may just be a flaw in the metal work...   Leigh
    • Cap Camouflage Pattern I
I have never seen one with solid provenance in a museum or private collection or still in a veterans possession, or in a wartime photo. I have seen a few alleged ones in collections but they have either had no provenance or very loose "provenance".   Personally I suspect they are most likely a Chinese civilian/militia canteen, of which there a million different variations, some of which are pretty close to military canteens with minor differences, which this would be in line with, and some which are radically different designs made of plastic with a cup over the lid, and often in funky colors like white, blue, or pink. But I have actually seen some of the latter type being used in Vietnam so I would not be terribly shocked if I saw one of these blue cap canteens.

I called the dealer who I bought the uniform from. He said it was purchased at an estate auction of a big militaria collector. He has no information as to the history and/or original owner of it. Too bad but I'm still thrilled to have acquired it.

Mario,   You should really attach the images directly here. I can't open the two attachments you posted. You can simply drag and drop the images at the bottom of the text box where the paperclip is.   We can't help you if you use files that are not easy to open   Best   Leigh

So there are many different weaves, or looms that were used at various times during the war. There was the Bevo type ‘filled in’ loom weave (which I think was mid high quality wartime) and there was the late war Bevo type loom weave that had the ‘negative reverse’ threads and was called a ‘floating weave’ I think🧐 which resulted in the blocky kind of backing like the one I am posting. Some say this type is considered a ‘Dachau’ type machine woven eagle but then I have seen the embroided thicker type that is considered a ‘Dachau’ eagle too🤷‍♂️ so with the many different types I’m just wondering is what we’ve got here, a late war manufacturing style, dachau style or a repo piece. Would love to know from more educated people on this topic.
