German Helmets in Hollywood

This one worn by Sergeant Himmelstoss looks like a mock up, note no Spilt head, rivet for chin strap is too far back, with chin strap being attached inside the helmet in the manner of an M18 Helmet rather than a M16. No visible spit head in rear, and these were thicker that the two in the front which were Flat Faced, the Lug ion tis side s gone too, but that wouldn't be an indication it is a mock up, just the rest on the point outs

A good M35 or M40 by the looks of it in the 1967 movie TOBRUK.

Two good ones from the Great Escape. A Luftwaffe one on the guy who takes McQueen to the Cooler a couple of times, and a Heer, I think the Swiss Border scenes.

Warren Spahn the the real life War Hero, and Baseball Great, in a guest star spot in COMBAT, mock up helmet and uniform, the Schmeisser, looks like a MP38, note the fluting on a bit of what is visable, got some kind of Blank Adapter on it right.

A Mock Up as we see on Michael Beck as Hans Helms in the 1978 T.V. Mini Series Holocaust, Helms, the older brother of Meryl Streep's character Inga Helms, who marries James Wood's character the Jewish  Karl Weiss. Hans Helms is a Pre War serving Heer Infantryman, in the Heer from at least 1935, by the start of the war he's a Gerfeiter or Obergefreiter still, can't find other stills where his rank is seen LOL, he later in the War transfers to the Waffen SS.

Charlie Chaplin in the Great Dictator when his character was in the Imperial Army in the Great War, on examination it looks to be a mock up, which is odd given the huge amount of real ones in Hollywood, but then there's the one Himmelstoss wears a few years earlier in All Quite on the Western Front, a mock up.

You know what, I think these are GIs dressed like Germans, in the movie they jump Germans capture them and put on their uniforms to save the town folks .

Fred Williams as  SS Haupsturmführer  Viktor Eberhard Gräbner , Great Still of him as the action begins, helmet looks like the real deal, albeit with decals added. Though Williams, the tall good looking lady killer looks nothing like the historical Gräbner  .

 

And who knows if this is what he actually wore right, could of been a few different combinations right, Smock with Plain helmet, a Smock with Helmet cover, a M43 Cap, Camo Tunic and Pants with Sidecap etc etc etc.

One more Still of Williams and his Helmet, note he wears the wrong shoulder straps, his are Heer Infantry with White Waffenfarbe, the correct ones would be Golden Yellow with Black Under lay for Officers of SS  Panzer Reconnaissance  Battalions.  Also decent views of two of his troops, what is it they wear as Camo, Leibermuster?

These are from The Forgotten Battle from 2020 a Dutch movie, posted Canadians from it in the UK Insigina forum of Formation Signs in Movies and TV.

 

Look real right, and note no Mauser has it's Cleaning Rod.

Corporal LeBeau  masquerading as a German for some kind of job, a thoroughly mocked up helmet we see.

Two from a 1971  Soviet film Trial On The Road, real ones  by the looks of them, though the Decal on the one wearing the M42 is probably a added phony one.
